Why Moving Insurance is Essential
Understanding the different types of moving company insurance.
Moving can be a stressful experience, and the last thing you want is for your belongings to be mishandled or for any damages to go unaddressed. That’s where moving insurance comes in – it’s designed to give you peace of mind throughout the entire process. At Bulldogs Moving Co., we are professionally insurance. We treat every item with the same care and attention we would give our own, which is why we say, “Your Possessions. Our Priority.” We take pride in offering personalized, reliable service and quick resolutions to any issues that arise.
Since moving insurance is essential, here is an overview of what moving insurance is from professional movers.
Workers Comp Insurance
If a Bulldogs Moving mover gets injured while working on your property, our workers’ compensation insurance immediately covers their medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs. Because we hire all our movers as W2 employees, we fully insure them under our policy. Each team member also passes a rigorous background check to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
Be cautious when choosing a moving company or hiring local help from Facebook. Companies that hire contract workers or issue 1099s may be avoiding workers’ compensation requirements and skipping thorough background checks. This practice not only puts workers at risk but could also leave you exposed to legal and liability issues.
Industry Standard Moving Insurance
All legitimate moving companies are legally required to offer this coverage. By default, moving companies provide only minimal coverage—typically just $0.60 per pound per item. That means a flatscreen TV is valued at less than $50. This low compensation often falls short for most household items, especially valuable or fragile goods.
Since this standard insurance may not adequately cover the value of your belongings, look for a company that offers more comprehensive coverage. Be sure to check Google reviews for insights from past customers when making your choice.
Cargo Moving Insurance
Local moving companies need cargo insurance—especially if they’re licensed for national moves. At Bulldogs Moving Co., we stand out because we’re fully licensed for both local and national moves. This broader authorization requires us to carry cargo insurance—something most local movers don’t need.
Our cargo insurance includes a full valuation policy, so if our /per truck is involved in an accident and your items are deemed a total loss, you’re fully covered. It’s rare for local moving companies to offer this level of protection, but having cargo insurance gives you peace of mind whether you’re moving across town or across the country.
The Bulldogs Coverage Guarantee
At Bulldogs, we take a unique approach to insurance that truly sets us apart. While damage is rare, it’s an unavoidable part of the moving process. We understand that the typical $0.60 per pound coverage for damages doesn’t always reflect the actual value of items. That’s why Bulldogs Moving goes above and beyond with enhanced protection, providing our customers with extra peace of mind during what can be a stressful time.
Unlike standard moving insurance, our in-house coverage offers added security in the event of damage. For moves valued at $2,000 or more, we provide an additional $2,000 in coverage. Moves costing less than $2,000, we offer coverage up to the full cost of the move. For instance, if your move costs $500, you can claim up to that amount for damages. Please note, however, that some exclusions may apply, such as certain types of items or specific damage conditions.
